3rd Kawangis Climb for a Cause (April 30 - May 1, 2011)

For the 3rd time, Kawangis Mountaineers held a climb for a cause for the patient Benjamin Viloria. He was admitted as a case of systemic viral infection. A total of 35 participants joined this event including the Kawangis Cores, Members and Guests and scaled Mt. Banoi located at Brgy. Balatbat, Sitio Malabnig, Lobo, Batangas and standing at 960 MASL (Main Peak).

Day 1

Call time 8:00 AM, Mheann and I had arrived Jollibee Junction Alabang 15 minutes late. Sakang and his friends were already there. We came late because the night before Bong, Pogs, Mheann and I had a chillax drinking session at Pacita Complex. Later on, everybody else arrived except for Bong who came last on the meeting place

It was past 10 in the morning when we depart from Alabang. I was kinda worried because we might ended up trekking at night(which come to pass) and would be difficult because no one knows the trail up to the campsite. By 12 noon, we stop over at Petron, Sto. Thomas Batangas.

On the other hand, Yelly's team are on the way to Batangas City. By the way we rented 2 jeepneys. We're left behind by them because our transporter drives really slow and didn't bother to enter the Star Tollway to lessen the hours of driving thus he uses the national road which is not advisable since our destination is quite far.

By 2:30 in the afternoon we arrived at Lobo town proper. Finally, we're reunited to Yelly's team. We take our late lunch, buy foods and other things needed for our trekking.

It was past 3 o'clock in the afternoon when we left Lobo town proper and headed to the jumpoff point and by 4pm we arrived at a small chapel by the end of the road of Brgy, Balatbat. Everybody was busy packing up things in preparation for the climb.

It was 5 o'clock in the afternoon when we started our trekking. Otep and his participants started to trek and was assigned to put trail sign on their way. I was assigned to lead the others on our way to the Sitio Malabnig. The trail was very long as expected along the dry riverbed. Good thing we started late because it would be more difficult walking under the sun.

We regrouped at a small hut along the trail. It was getting dark already so we had to get our headlamps ready. We reached Sitio Malabnig at past 6 in the evening. We have to regroup, Since no one knows the trail, we decided to trek in one group. We advised each and everyone to watch the person on their back so no one would be left alone on the trail.

By past 7pm we resume trekking, Otep and I find it difficult to search for the right trail. We need both to agree in the decision we have to make. As we go further, we have to take several stop so our sweeper could catch up with the lead pack. As we are walking, Otep and I had a little chat while we are walking. We didn't notice that we are getting lost. I remember stopping and told Otep that we are lost because the trail ahead of me is going down. As far as i know the trail should be going up. Everybody is exhausted, so Sir Mark assisted us in finding the right way with the help of Edelyn. Sooner we found the right track, but we have to scout the trail whenever there is a trail splitting. We arrived at the campsite past 10 in the evening. The wind blows hard and was very cold. We scouted the camp to search for a good place to pitched our tents. After setting up the camp, the group begins to prepare foods. Some cooked rice, Bong cooked his specialty for the night Bopis. We then started to drink Emperador Light while cooking.

When all the foods are almost ready, we begin to eat our late dinner. The foods was delicious. After we ate our dinner, we continue our socials for the night. We held an activity, Bong called it as "Back Stabbing", something like that. Wherein, each member of Kawangis must prepare 1 whole bond paper and a pen, then he/she must write his/her name on the paper. A non member, Japs assisted us in the game. When he signal to pass the paper on the person in our right. Then when you recieved the paper, you will then write something to the person written on the paper. It should be started by "Sorry" the followed by "Thank You" and lastly "I wish you". Everybody are excited with the activity which will bond us together deeply as brothers and sisters.
